Four Scottish Mountains*
Four enlarged and digitally printed maps on paper of the mountains, Suilven, Foinaven, Slioch and Liathach in the North West of Scotland, superimposed with fingerprints in peat
Each 100 x 100 cm – hung as a square 200 x 200 cm
Just as the waves and whorls in the wood of a tree follow the movement of the flow of sap, so fingerprints are an indication of the movement of fluids within the body. The tips of our fingers also allow us to experience the world through touch. We ourselves can be ‘touched’ by something. Over the years I have walked extensively over the hills of the North West of Scotland so there is something here of ‘Touching the Earth’, hence the fingerprints in earth pigments.
