  A temporary 21m long work, 'Open Vessel' was commissioned for The Edge of Town exhibition featuring 21 American, British and Canadian artists whose work deals with landscape, culture and environment.
The work is in the shape of an upturned boat and woven from sticks of oak, hickory and maple, made on the university campus.
Other British artists included Victor Burgin, Hamish Fulton, Richard Long, David Nash, Roger Palmer, Cornelia Parker, Nicholas Sinclair and Stephen Willats. The exhibition, curated by Zina Davis and Bob Chaplin, was accompanied by a symposium and a boxed catalogue with an introduction by Stephen Bann.
