The work uses a section from an East Antarctic echogram, where radar is bounced from the wings of a plane, through the ice to the land below and back, giving an image of a cross section of 4 K of ice and the land forms beneath it.
An echocardiogram, from the pilot who flew the plane, using a similar imaging technology, is superimposed onto the bottom of the image.
