PROJECT IDEAS

An idea looking for a site
For a few years now I have had an idea for a Horizon Line Chamber on a coastal site. This idea is very much to the fore this year because an independent curator, Gareth Evans, with a grant from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, is looking for artists with an idea and a place in mind to collaborate on his  Re-Enchantment Project, developing artists’ responses to place and its meanings across the UK. So, with this in mind, I am looking for a location and an enthusiastic community to realise one of these two ideas in collaboration with The Re-Enchantment:

1.      Horizon Line Chamber A small stone chamber on a coastal site facing North East or North West. A small lens or aperture in the wall projects a circular image divided by the horizon line between sea and sky. The image will be upside down with the sea on top and will be constantly changing with the light and weather conditions. In the drawing this chamber would be best in a dry stone in an area where something like slab sandstone is easily available

2.      Wind Wave Chamberthis is a similar idea requiring a similar site, but it is a more elaborate building with a basement and attic and perhaps made in collaboration with an architect. Here by using mirrors and lenses 3 circles are projected onto the opposite wall, the ceiling and onto the floor. The wall would be the same as the Horizon line, The glass floor would have sky and clouds and the ceiling would have waves. So you would stand in the middle of the room and your world would be upside down in a series of continuously changing images. Both these chambers will be transformative and meditative spaces. If anyone with a local site in mind who would like to see this project happen in their area, please contact me through this website.
